2023 Jim Barry The Armagh Shiraz
Maximum of 1 bottle p/order Here we have a stunningly elegant and beautiful release of one of Australia's most sought-after red wines - Jim Barry's 'The Armagh'. Jim Barry planted this little patch of land back in 1968, naming the site after a nearby village to honor his family’s Irish roots. The heart of the vineyard comes down to Blocks 9, 14, and 15. Those vines are over 50 years old now, with roots digging deep into ancient Clare Valley soils. Because they're older, they naturally yield smaller batches of deeply concentrated fruit. That age gives the wine its signature balance. It’s got incredible power, but it never feels heavy or over-the-top. When you take a sip, you get a rush of rich dark fruit layered with bittersweet chocolate, pipe tobacco, and warm spice. It’s routinely ranked right at the top of Australia’s finest Shiraz offerings, and honestly, it easily holds its own against the finest Syrahs of the world. It's fantastic with a decant right now, but it’s really built for the cellar. 99 Points & Shiraz of the Year! “The '23 harvest has produced perhaps one of the most restrained and fine Armagh releases of all. This is a sublime wine of control, levity and sense of freshness, but it doesn't miss the trick of concentration... The quieter voice and elegance here is beautiful. A striking wine.” - Halliday Wine Companion
