Kitsch Cow Cake

A super cute and kitsch cake of Belgian chocolate sponge and vanilla Swiss meringue buttercream, decorated with hand-piped ruffles, ropes, blossoms, fencing and cows. The sponge is soft, moist and rich, layered with silky buttercream for a smooth finish. From the Chef Truth be told, this cake, or rather this type of kitsch design is so ugly it's cute. Imperfectly symmetrical piping placements trigger something inside of me but when I step back and look at the completed cake I cannot help but smile. The cows are 100% buttercream and possibly some of the sweetest animals we've ever piped. Ingredients Sponge: Vanilla – Flour (wheat, gluten), sugar, egg, milk, buttermilk (milk), yoghurt (milk), sunflower and rapeseed oil, baking powder, vanilla extract, salt. Chocolate – Flour (wheat, gluten), sugar, egg, milk, cocoa, sunflower and rapeseed oil, sodium bicarbonate (raising agent: E500), instant coffee granules, vanilla extract. Lemon – Flour (wheat, gluten), sugar, egg, milk, buttermilk (milk), yoghurt (milk), sunflower and rapeseed oil, baking powder, lemon zest, lemon juice, natural lemon flavouring with other natural flavourings, vanilla extract, salt. Red Velvet – Wheat flour (gluten), eggs, milk, buttermilk (milk), sunflower and rapeseed oil, sugar, baking powder, vanilla extract, cocoa powder, colouring: Red (Vegetable Glycerine E422, Mono Propylene Glycol E1520, Water, Ponceau 4R E124, Allura Red E129). Cookies & Cream – Wheat flour (gluten), eggs, milk, buttermilk (milk), sunflower and rapeseed oil, sugar, baking powder, vanilla extract, Oreo [wheat flour, sugar, palm oil, rapeseed oil, fat-reduced cocoa powder (4.5%), wheat starch, glucose-fructose syrup, raising agents (potassium carbonates, ammonium carbonates, sodium carbonates), salt, emulsifiers (soya lecithin, sunflower lecithin), flavouring]. Pistachio – Wheat flour (gluten), eggs, milk, buttermilk (milk), sunflower and rapeseed oil, sugar, baking powder, vanilla extract, pistachios (nuts). Buttercream: Sugar, egg white, butter (milk), vanilla extract, salt, colouring: Pink (Glycerol, Propylene Glycol, E551, E104, E155, E129), Yellow (Glycerol E422, Propylene Glycol E551, E104, E110), Green (Glycerol, Propylene Glycol, E551, E104, E133), Blue (Glycerol E422, Propylene Glycol E1520, Silicon Dioxide E551, Water, E133, E122), Purple (Glycerol, Propylene Glycol, E551, E122, E133). *Although not necessarily present in this particular product, the colours used across our range may include E102, E104, E110, E122 and E129, which may have an adverse effect on activity and attention in some children. All products are produced on premises handling eggs, gluten, nuts, peanuts, milk, sesame and soya and may contain traces. Cakes may contain cocktail sticks and dowelling for support.
