Aquanaut, 5167/1A-001

Introduced in 2007, the Patek Philippe Aquanaut 5167/1A refined the Aquanaut into a slimmer, cleaner and more contemporary sports watch. The 40.8mm steel case, rounded octagonal bezel and embossed black dial give the watch its recognisable shape, while the design keeps the relaxed, practical character that has always separated the Aquanaut from the Nautilus. The 5167 works by keeping the formula direct. The dial has texture without clutter, the case has presence without weight, and the overall profile feels practical rather than decorative. It is still unmistakably Patek Philippe, but it wears with a level of ease that many traditional luxury sports watches do not. Inside sits Patek Philippe’s calibre 324 S C, the automatic movement also used in the Nautilus 5711. With sweep seconds, quick-set date and a sapphire caseback, it gives the Aquanaut proper mechanical substance while keeping the watch simple enough to wear often. Steel case, black embossed dial and no unnecessary complication: the formula is simple, but difficult to improve. This 2019 Aquanaut 5167/1A is presented in unworn condition and supplied with a rubber strap and clasp only.
