2023 Daniel & Julien Barraud ‘Sur la Roche’ Pouilly-Fuissé 1er Cru
JM93 Pale lemon colour. Tighter on the nose, a stony tension, concentration but without flesh. The tension drives the wine through the mid palate, crunchy apples with body behind. A wine of chiselled precision, yet with multiple layers. Drink from 2028-2035. (Jasper Morris) Estate Notes: One of the highest elevation vineyards in the village, ‘Sur La Roche’ truly delivers on its name: tons of stony, sea-salty energy, bracing citrus flavors, depth and persistence for miles. Certainly a top Mâconnais’ vineyard, if not the very tip-top — and a wine we stash in our personal cellars, each and every vintage. Aromas of yellow peaches, citrus zest, light baking spices. Broad and fleshy but perfectly balanced; flavors of lemon curd, yellow fruits. Hand-harvested. Pressed full cluster; placed in temperature- controlled tanks overnight to settle; transferred via gravity to French oak barrels to ferment on indigenous yeasts. Aged in barrel (20% new oak) for 12 months; after racking, the wine ages an additional two months in tank. Bottled unfined and unfiltered.
