The decoration includes a crowned GR monogram for King George (almost certainly George IV), the Lion of England standing upon the royal crown, a naval anchor, the Sovereign’s Orb, along with the English rose, Scottish thistle and other floral sprays, and some initials of ‘C.G.’, all executed in a charming naive folk art style. Traces of the original hand applied colouring remain within some of the engraved designs. Beautifully aged with a rich, honest patina acquired over many decades. Wonderful things!
