Pair of Carl-Johan Boman Easy Chairs in Floral Fabric, Finland, 1940s

Brand: Roomage
SKU: SE450

A pair of Finnish easy chairs designed by Carl-Johan Boman in the 1940s. The chairs have low, generous proportions with curved wraparound backrests, sprung seats and softly rounded seat cushions. The upholstered frames are supported by stained birch legs. They have been professionally reupholstered in a new floral fabric in warm shades of pink, brown, ochre and grey, finished with contrasting piping, matching covered buttons and pleated skirts around the base. The rounded form and generous upholstery are characteristic of comfortable lounge furniture of the 1940s, before the lighter constructions of post-war modernism became dominant. Boman’s furniture from this period combined traditional upholstery techniques with increasingly simplified forms, creating pieces that sit between earlier Scandinavian classicism and emerging Finnish modernism. With their low seat height, spring construction and enveloping backrests, these chairs are made for comfortable lounging. The expressive floral upholstery gives the pair plenty of character while the compact proportions make them easy to place in a living room, bedroom or reading corner.
