North of Midnight | A Yukon Northern Lights Road Trip aboard the Squatch Bus
North of Midnight Departures Choose your own winter date North of Midnight can be booked on request throughout the winter. Send us a message using the form below with your preferred date, number of guests and whether you’d like the two-day or three-day adventure. We’ll get back to you as soon as possible. The Northern Lights don’t have a fixed address. Neither do we. The full North of Midnight experience is a three-day, two-night winter road trip into the Yukon wilderness aboard the Squatch Bus. A shorter two-day, one-night option is also available. We leave Whitehorse behind and travel toward the mountains, choosing our direction based on the weather and road conditions. We may head south toward the White Pass corridor or west along the Haines Road. The drive is a big part of the adventure. Snow-covered roads wind past frozen lakes, forests and completely white mountain passes, with plenty of time to stop along the way. Depending on the conditions, we’ll head out for an easy winter walk or strap on snowshoes to explore a little farther from the road. Eventually, we pull off somewhere remote and settle in for the night. There are no hotels and no campgrounds. The Squatch Bus becomes our moving wilderness cabin, with warm bunks, a full kitchen and a cozy woodstove crackling through the evening. After a homemade fondue dinner, step outside into the dark to watch the sky—or stay warm beside the woodstove and look for the Northern Lights through the bus windows. When you’re ready for bed, there is no late-night drive back to Whitehorse. You simply crawl into your bunk. And if the Aurora appears later in the night, we’ll wake you.
