2024 Woodlands Brook Emily

Woodlands has been producing 'Emily' since 1989. Made specifically for Peter Anderson and friends - 'Emily' is a "right bank" blend where Cabernet Franc and Merlot are the focus. The 'Emily' plot lies on a gentle north west facing slope, on free draining Wilyabrup Valley soil. The vines are close-planted, which promotes competition between vines and concentrates flavours. Our 2024 Emily is powerful and dense, and definitely for the long term. 2024 was warm, and very dry, indeed the most dry vintage since 2007. Spring conditions commenced early, and the remainder of the growing season stayed dry and warm. The 2024 'Emily' is a blend of 45% Cabernet Franc, 45% Merlot, 8% Malbec and 2% Cabernet Sauvignon matured in 300L French Hogsheads for 15 months, of which 25% were new. The colour is an intense dark red. The nose broods with violet, dark-red fruits, and savoury spicy oak notes. The palate is very rich, yet still bright and fresh, with a dense core of dark berries, plums and mulberries. Firm yet powdery tannins complete the picture. Best enjoyed from 2030 - 2032.
