Trading Places Drunk Santa (Dan Aykroyd Santa Clause/Trading Places)

Trading Places — Drunk Santa Dan Aykroyd Christmas Sweatshirt Directed by John Landis, Trading Places stars Dan Aykroyd as Louis Winthorpe III, a wealthy Philadelphia commodities broker whose privileged existence is completely destroyed by a cruel social experiment orchestrated by two obscenely rich brothers, Randolph and Mortimer Duke. The Dukes wager that they can ruin Winthorpe's life while transforming street hustler Billy Ray Valentine, played by Eddie Murphy, into a successful businessman simply by switching their circumstances. Naturally, things get completely out of hand. After losing his job, his home, his fiancée, and just about every shred of dignity, Winthorpe reaches his lowest point at the company Christmas party, where he sneaks in disguised as Santa Claus. With his filthy red suit, crooked beard, disheveled appearance, and increasingly desperate behavior, Aykroyd delivers one of the most memorably unhinged performances in holiday movie history. After stuffing an entire smoked salmon into his Santa suit, Winthorpe ends up alone on a Philadelphia bus, drunk, miserable, and attempting to eat the fish through his fake beard. It's revolting. It's ridiculous. It's absolutely perfect. Of course, Trading Places is much more than a Christmas comedy. Released in 1983, the film became one of the defining comedies of the decade, combining biting social satire, class warfare, Wall Street greed, and some of the best performances of both Aykroyd's and Murphy's careers. The cast also includes Jamie Lee Curtis, Denholm Elliott, Ralph Bellamy, and Don Ameche, all contributing to a movie that remains endlessly quotable more than four decades later. And for anyone familiar with Philadelphia, the film is practically a love letter to the city, featuring recognizable locations including Rittenhouse Square, the Curtis Institute of Music, and the city's grand old financial district. But it's that unforgettable image of a thoroughly defeated Dan Aykroyd in his filthy Santa suit that has become one of the movie's most beloved visual jokes.
