Joe Hisaishi – Kiki’s Delivery Service: Image Album LP (First Vinyl Edition, Studio Ghibli Records, Japan Import TJJA-10020)
About the album As he did on Nausicaä, Castle in the Sky and Totoro, Joe Hisaishi began Kiki's Delivery Service with an image album: music written before the film was finished, to capture its world and characters. Miyazaki's brief was a seaside town "somewhere in Europe, around the Mediterranean," and Hisaishi answered with sunny, European-flavored pieces for Kiki's mother's broom, the town at night, Tombo, Jiji and Lily, and the bakery window where Kiki finds her place. Released in April 1989, three months before the film, it captures the score in its earliest form. In 2020, Studio Ghibli Records remastered it and released it on vinyl for the first time, alongside the Kiki soundtrack and the Porco Rosso albums.
