20 or 30 feet of rope between you and him, so he gets to run and you still have the other end. recall gets taught in the park long before you trust it in the woods. a long line gives him the space to make the choice and come back, and you're still attached if he doesn't. soft at your end when a dog hits the end of 30 feet of rope, the stop lands on a padded neoprene handle instead of your fingers. he learns to come back clip on, let him range, call him in and pay him. 20 ft is enough room in the park without him wrapping it round every tree. 30 ft is for when he ranges further. nothing gives at his end nylon rope and hardware that holds, in the same black as the tactical collar and harness. 1 clip it to the collar or the harness. 2 let the rope run; keep the handle, not the rope, in your hand. 3 call, reward, repeat. shorten the line as the recall gets reliable. 20 ft is the everyday long line: room to range in the park without the rope getting away from you. 30 ft is for tracking and open fields.
