44 x 27 inches (112 x 69 cm) 150 knots / inch, hand-knotted silk Edition of 20 + 3APs Designed in 2017 object description In digital-age terms, rugs by their very nature have the characteristic of having noticeable pixelation - and in Keltie Ferris's gorgeous intense abstract paintings, pixelation and resolution are a central issue. Her body-print based pigmented works on paper, previously exhibited at Mitchell Inness & Nash, are the inspiration for this rug.

Ferris coats her body with oil and presses herself against the paper surface on the floor of her studio. She then sprinkles the paper with pure color pigments. The results are compelling. Resembling a photographic yet fragmented impression of the body, they recall X-rays, Xeroxes or photo-silkcreens.

The size of the carpet is meant to evoke a prayer rug or a mystical shroud. In an article in "Hyperallergic," Keltie Ferris says, “The body prints are as colorful as humanly possible”; that this intensity is captured in the dyed woven silk is what makes the rug so amazing and forceful.

Hand-knotted in silk by highly-skilled artisans in Nepal. This rug is also available in custom sizes.

We offer limited edition rugs by some of the most compelling contemporary artists working today. Each artist is intimately involved in the translation from artwork to rug. Made of wool and silk, the rugs are hand-knotted by highly-skilled artisans in Nepal using the traditional cross-weaving technique. Many carpets today are made with uncrossed weaving which is cheaper, faster to produce, and less durable.

The mill’s carbon footprint is extremely low. It does not employ any heavy machinery and uses electricity generated via hydro (not coal, not diesel, not nuclear), as well as solar panels and windmills. No harsh chemicals are used when the rugs are washed.

Each rug features a GoodWeave certified label. This ensures that no child labor was used in the production of our rugs. GoodWeave conducts unannounced random inspections of the factory and makes sure all adult weavers are paid fair wages. Their overall mission is to end child labor in the carpet industry and to offer educational opportunities to children in South Asia.
