Corn Husk Poppet "Ffraid"

Ffraid... She's the Welsh Brigid... saint and older-than-saint, keeper of the hearth-fire, the threshold, and the healing herbs hung to dry. The one you'd call on to bless a doorway and mind a home. This poppet carries a besom, bound with mugwort for warding and good dreaming, lavender to keep the peace, and a rosebud tucked in for sweetness. She's a sweeper of thresholds. No name sits more naturally in the hand of a poppet who tends fires and sweeps unseen corners. Made by hand from the husk of the corn, gathered while the fields still stood gold. She's a plain thing, this poppet, and none the worse for it... the old folk always knew there was more use in what's plain and close to the ground than in anything bought. Stand her on the altar and she'll hold what you give her. Keep her by the hearth and she'll mind the house, the fire, the door. Tell her your workings when you cast, quiet-like. A poppet listens better than most, and she doesn't forget. Each poppet is her own, no two the same. Give her to the land at Mabon and call it fair thanks for the harvest. Keep her for the hearth.
