Sarah Walters Blue & White Vase Series

A series of one-of-a-kind stoneware vases, each hand-painted with loose cobalt motifs, irises, grasses, leaves, and dragonflies, drifting across a pale, atmospheric ground. Some finished with a delicate band of pattern at the rim or foot. Hand-thrown in white stoneware and reduction-fired in a gas kiln, a traditional method that softens the glaze and draws the cobalt deep into the surface. Sarah mixes her own pigment, inspired by the blue and white ceramics of China, and paints each vessel freehand, so no two are alike in shape, scale, or brushwork. Sculptural in their own right, and equally beautiful holding a single stem, dried grasses, or a loose seasonal arrangement. Lovely as a single piece, but they really come into their own gathered in twos or threes.
