Here we have the latest and much anticipated DIY hilt from KR Sabers, One Replicas and WannaWanga - the Graflex Saber Kit! Over 3 years in development, our plan for this kit was to create an ideal entry-level kit for beginners to start their lightsaber building journey, and what better way to do so than with the original lightsaber! It all started in 1976 when Roger Christian, a Star Wars Set Decorator, went down to a photography store in London, looking for something he could make the lightsaber out of. Inside a forgotten box, pointed out by the store owner, he found some flashguns for Graflex "Speed Graphics" Cameras, and instantly knew he had found it! He bought the lot and raced back to the studios, into his set decorating room where he kept all kinds of things. He took 7 pieces of some black T-shaped plastic strips and put them on the flashgun as handles. In the clamp, he put a bubble strip from a calculator he had broken down, a Texas Instruments Exactra 19 from 1974. When he handed it to George Lucas, he just held it… And smiled. This hilt has been beautifully created using both original and modern manufacturing methods. The Graflex flashgun parts are plated brass, true to the original, and the blade holder is anodised black CNC machined aluminium. We have ensured that this kit is designed for installs in mind. It features a 1” blade holder with a slotted screw blade retention method. The red button is a spring-loaded plunger. The internal blade holder allows for 2 PCB mounted switches. The secondary switch is incorporated as a push-button on the slide tab. The lower tube has discrete sound venting ensuring the entire stamp is intact. The blade holder also features retention screws so users can benefit from a retention solution if designing their own chassis. An overview video of the kit can be watched here. If you choose ANH or ESB accessories, please note that these items are supplied separately and are not installed onto the hilt. Installation may be offered in the future or on a case-by-case basis. For the application of the grips or belt accessory, we recommend using a 3D printed grip guide or template for this.
