Introduced in 1956, the Rolex Day-Date was the world’s first wristwatch to display both the date and the day of the week spelled out in full. Known as the “President’s Watch,” it quickly became a symbol of prestige, crafted exclusively in precious metals such as gold and platinum. During the 1950s and 1960s, more expressive finishes in gold gained popularity. This led to the introduction of references such as the 1806, 1807, and 1811—distinct variations of the Day-Date featuring decorative textures on bezels, bracelet center links, and in the case of the 1811, even the case itself. The reference 1807 is particularly notable for its characteristic bark-finished bezel. The example offered here is a wonderful representation of that era, reaffirming our appreciation for the charm of four-digit Day-Date references. The 36 mm case remains in pleasing condition, complemented by a beautifully hand-finished bezel that adds depth and character. The classic pie-pan dial is presented in an elegant champagne tone, featuring applied stick hour markers, crisp black printed text, and softly aged lume plots that harmonize perfectly with the hands. A Spanish day disc adds an extra layer of character and provenance. This Day-Date is fitted on a refined Bulang & Sons leather strap and is accompanied by its original guarantee papers, indicating a sale in Spain in 1975. It further includes its inner and outer Rolex boxes, the original plastic document holder, and a period-correct Rolex calendar card. The watch and its slow setting movement have been fully serviced by our watch maker.
