Lecturer: Hanah Williams Sat 2 May – Sat 16 May (3 full Saturdays) 9.30am – 4.30pm Level – Beginner Age – 16+ This is an adult class and is not suitable for students under 16 years of age. Students under 18, must obtain parental or guardian consent and submit a completed consent form before the class commences. Discover the magic of etching and intaglio printmaking in this hands-on course designed for beginners. You’ll be introduced to drypoint printmaking using acrylic and recycled materials, as well as hard ground line etching and resist etching techniques on aluminium. Throughout the course, you’ll explore a range of intaglio printing processes while learning how to work safely and confidently. You’ll take home a collection of prints along with the skills and knowledge to continue etching in your own studio. This course uses eco-aware, safer printmaking processes and materials. All printmaking materials and equipment are included in the course fee. *Allergens: Please note that the inks used in this course contain linseed oil Materials required: 1x Gloves (dishwashing) 1x Gloves (dishwashing or disposable for printing- your hands will get inky!) Apron (and, or wear clothes appropriate for the studio) Enclosed shoes Mask if you have asthma or any allegies to sulphites or linseed Sketchbook/notebook and pen, pencil, eraser, ruler, sharpener, scissors Acid free glue stick Folder/folio/cardboard for transporting prints from class Any rags i.e. old bed sheets, clothes etc. are much appreciated for clean up Materials supplied in the course: Etching needle Etching grounds and resists Full spectrum of etching inks 2x aluminium plates (15x20cm) 2x acrylic and recycled drypoint plates 2 x sheets of printmaking paper Japanese printmaking papers Newsprint/ butchers paper Clean up materials Hanah Williams is a print-based artist and educator. She is interested in the characteristics of etching and uses repetition of print as a means of understanding the world. Hanah’s work delves into the realms of dreams, folklore and the human connection to the natural world. She holds a Masters by Research (UniSA) with a focus on eco-aware printmaking materials and processes and has also undertaken research in this field overseas.
