Colombia Gesha by Luis Aníbal Calderón | Exotic Specialty Coffee from Villa Betulia
Colombia Gesha by Luis Aníbal Calderón A coffee shaped by altitude, patience, and obsession with detail There are coffees designed to wake you up. And there are coffees designed to stay with you. This Colombia Gesha by Luis Aníbal Calderón belongs to the second category. Grown at the renowned Villa Betulia farm in Acevedo, Huila, this coffee is the result of decades of dedication to specialty coffee cultivation. Luis Aníbal Calderón began working in coffee fields as a child and gradually transformed Villa Betulia into one of Colombia’s most respected farms for exotic varieties, including Gesha, Sidra, Java, Wush Wush, and Pink Bourbon. At elevations reaching around 1,600–1,800 meters above sea level, the farm’s climate allows cherries to mature slowly, developing the complexity and sweetness that define exceptional Gesha coffees. Why Gesha Is Different Gesha coffee is considered one of the most extraordinary coffee varieties in the world. Originally traced to the Gesha forests of Ethiopia, the variety became globally celebrated for its intensely floral aromatics, refined sweetness, tea-like structure, and layered tropical fruit profile. Scientific and specialty coffee references consistently describe Gesha coffees through notes such as jasmine, black tea, honey, citrus, and tropical fruit. Unlike commodity coffee designed for consistency and mass production, Gesha is cultivated for expression: lower yields selective hand-picking meticulous processing sensory precision Every step exists to preserve clarity in the cup. The Farm: Villa Betulia Villa Betulia is more than a coffee farm. It is a living archive of specialty coffee experimentation. After initially planting traditional Colombian varieties, Luis Aníbal began cultivating Gesha in 2012. Following the success and cup quality of those first trees, he expanded the farm into rare and exotic cultivars almost entirely dedicated to high-end specialty coffee production. Today, Villa Betulia is internationally recognized among specialty roasters and green coffee buyers for coffees with explosive aromatics and exceptional cup definition. This particular Gesha reflects that philosophy perfectly: clean structure, floral complexity, elegant sweetness, and remarkable transparency of origin.
