Heavy Vintage Galicha Kantha Quilt In Blue and Red

This large, heavy Galichi kantha quilt was hand crafted many years ago in Bangladesh using layers of vintage sari fabric, with intricate geometric patterns hand sewn with tiny cross stitches. Look for the hidden patterns: diagonal lines enclose 8-point stars, symbols of divine order, spiritual guidance and harmony, and always an area where the pattern is slightly different. Overall this one is in excellent condition, with hardly any marks or wear and a beautifully detailed reverse. APPROX SIZE: 210cm x 140cm (82" x 55") Perfect for a UK double-king bed (US full-Queen) or over a sofa or chair. Often called a "carpet kantha", Galichi kanthas are a very heavy weight, almost as thick as a flatweave kilim, utterly tactile as well as beautifully detailed with geometric patterns characteristic of Islamic design. Made sometime between 1947 and the 1970's, they have an impressive durable quality, clearly designed to last. This is a one-off, completely unique design, so when it's gone it's gone! It's a true vintage piece, so expect imperfections, patched details, marks and worn sections that reveal the layers below.
