In this case, late might just take the cake: producers around Mbilima washing station pick their cherries much later than those elsewhere in Ethiopia, and it's not that they're dragging their feet. At 2200 meters above sea level, Mbilima has the highest altitude of all the washing stations in the country. The elevation and the unique climate conditions that result cause the coffee to mature much more slowly. Harvest lasts well into October, and the results are well worth the wait: tropical flavours, creamy sweetness, tangy acidity with a satisfying weight on the palate. Slow to arrive, perhaps, but sure to disappear quick!
