Franklinia alatamaha (Franklin Tree)
Franklinia alatamaha is a loosely branched, small, often multi-stemmed tree. At a young age, the tree grows narrowly upwards, but after some years the crown will widen. Native to the Altamaha River valley in Georgia in the southeastern United States. It has been extinct in the wild since the early 19th century, but survives as a cultivated ornamental tree. The flowers are fairly large and striking, measuring 7-10cm across and somewhat cup shaped. They are solitary and each has five creamy-white petals surrounding golden-yellow stamens. H 3-6m
