Famous Raghurajpur Patachitra is a century old painting tradition from the small art centric village of Raghurajpur near Puri, Orissa.Here every house is art itself and house members are artists. They are making Patachitra for generations. We are honoured to feature some best known arts from the master craftsmen of the village who are nationally as well as internationally recognised. Material: Completely vegan and artists don't use any chemical paint on the Patachitra. Patachitra are drawn on cloths and palm leaves. Paintings used in the Patachitra are made from - All colors are made from natural sources: Red: from red ochre stone (hingula) Yellow: from orpiment (haritala) White: from powdered conch shell or chalk Black: from lamp soot Blue/Green: from natural minerals or plant extracts These pigments are mixed with tamarind seed gum to make them long-lasting and bright. Step 4: Painting The background color is filled first. Then the figures, deities, animals, and decorations are painted layer by layer. Borders and outlines are finely detailed with black ink. Most figures are shown in profile (side view) — a classical rule of this style. Size -18"*12" Finishing: Once the painting is dry, a thin coat of lacquer (lac) is applied to protect it and give a shiny finish. Sometimes, the same technique is used on palm leaves (Tala Pattachitra) or wooden panels instead of cloth
