HO Penn Central & Conrail Greenville Well Hole Flatcar Decals (Post-1968)
With the creation of Penn Central in 1968 the big task of assimilating the combined fleets of the NYC and PRR was a monumental one. There were some heavy-duty flatcars which received Penn Central and later Conrail marks that were token icon cars. Before the mergers of the 1960’s the C&O and NYC were close working partners. The C&O Had a fleet of Greenville well hole flatcars built, which the NYC purchased two cars from, and later when a larger capacity version was created, the NYC also had one built for them as well. This gave the NYC two 52-foot-long Greenville well hole flatcars and one 62-foot-long Greenville well hole flatcar. These cars survived into Penn Central and all three eventually got PC Green painted with black trucks, which they remained in for the rest of their service lives. One of the 55-foot cars did receive Conrail marks. All cars lasted into the early 1990’s before being retired. This set has enough data to do 1 car, 1 for PC marks, 1 for CR marks. For those wishing to apply ACI Bar Code Plates, we recommend using the Microscale Products Minical MC-4280. The 52-foot and 62-foot Greenville well hole flatcars have been produced by Funaro & Camerlengo as resin kits. Both length versions were imported in brass by Overland Models. Also, Quality Craft made craftsman kits for both cars too.
