A rare Rabbit in a Cabbage musical automaton. Made in Paris c.1890 by Roullet & Decamps. Performing with enthusiasm, the rabbit rises up, looks around and raises his ears before taking fright and in an instant, disappearing back into the cabbage. This classic automaton favourite is rarely available, usually staying in the owners families for generations and loved by all who see and hear it. Made of wood, papier mache and fur with a clockwork mechanism wound by the original distinctive R&D circular brass key. Performance is mechanically excellent, with enthusiasm and a resonant musical movement. The original leaves are faded but otherwise in good condition, the leaves retaining the original cabbage shape and texture, see photos and don’t hesitate to email if you have any questions.
