Because it was. Engineering Built Around the EJ Platform The DOS 70 uses a 58mm compressor wheel designed to operate at high pressure ratios and high shaft speeds. This is not a generic billet wheel. it was spec'd specifically to outflow any stock location turbo on the EJ platform while maintaining the spool characteristics Subaru owners expect. The turbine side runs a 60mm exducer inconel 713c wheel, an alloy chosen for its combination of low mass and high temperature durability. The 0.73 A/R exhaust housing was selected to balance spool speed with top-end flow, and the result is a turbo that responds quickly without sacrificing power potential at higher RPM. Ceramic Ball Bearing Center Section The center rotating assembly runs dual ceramic ball bearings with metal cages. Compared to traditional journal bearings, this setup reduces friction at startup, speeds up spool, and extends bearing life under sustained high-boost conditions. Metal-caged ceramic bearings are also more resistant to the heat cycling and oil contamination that shortened the life of older turbo designs.
