During the high production output of its round watches in the 1940's and 50's, Omega built a relatively small number of fine rectangular-movement based timepieces. A handful of these models made exclusively for the less restrained U.S. market had exquisitely shaped form cases with more dramatic designs, and this model is one of our very favorites. It’s one of those pieces that you don’t have to overthink - everything about it works, and the moment you pick it up you understand why. The case is what really draws you in. Omega gave it more personality than most. The flared lugs and gently curved sides here give it a shape that feels more sculpted than manufactured. It has presence though only a midsize, and on the wrist it wears with a kind of natural balance that’s hard to find. Originally a mens watch, by today's standards it is unisex sized and could easily by a woman wanting a fuller sized watch or a man who doesn't have a large wrist. The dial keeps things simpler in the best way. Clean silver with sharp gold markers and a small seconds register - nothing unnecessary, just enough to complement the case well without distracting. Inside is Omega’s caliber 302 caliber 302 (formerly R 17,8) rectangular mechanism, a purpose-built movement that was a bit ahead of its time with its 21,600 BPH fast beat timing system. It’s part of what makes these watches feel cohesive - the movement matches the case, not just in shape but in quality. Its original 14K gold case with its large, flared lugs and rolling sides is in just short of mint condition. Its silver dial shows only light signs of aging. And its high-grade, Omega movement is clean. One of our Master Watchmakers has disassembled it down to its last screw and cleaned and oiled it. It is running very strongly and keeping very accurate time. For the finishing touch, we have equipped it with a brand new leather strap making it ready for immediate enjoyment. Included with the purchase is a one-year C.O.T. warranty on the movement and its function, a custom printed Connoisseur of Time Certificate of Authenticity, and a new timing certificate attesting to its performance. If you enjoy a slightly smaller watch, this is a great one - it wears beautifully and makes a perfect complement to a larger Seamaster or Speedmaster.
