African Natural Diamond - 1.52ct, Pear, Fancy White

Held to the light, this pear-shaped diamond glows rather than sparkles — a soft, milky translucence shot through with faint flashes of pink, peach and pale blue, like moonlight caught in frosted glass. Most diamonds called "white" are actually colourless — light passes straight through them, so they read bright and clear. A natural fancy white diamond is something else entirely. Its milky, opalescent body comes not from trace elements (the way pink, blue or yellow diamonds get their colour) but from a dense cloud of sub-microscopic nano-inclusions and structural dislocation loops that scatter light from within, the same physics that gives an opal its glow. The conditions that produce this are exceptionally uncommon — GIA has recorded fewer than 2,000 natural fancy white and fancy black diamonds submitted for grading since 2008 combined, and well-cut examples above a carat are rarer still. It's a look the lab-grown industry doesn't make, because lab processes are designed to grow the cleanest, most transparent crystal possible — the opposite of the soft internal haze that defines a fancy white.
