Young Hyson is a high-quality Chinese green tea, prized for its delicate flavor and harvested before the spring rains. Heavily taxed by the British East India Company, it became both a symbol of refinement and colonial resistance in 18th-century America. Around 70 chests—about 7,560 pounds—were destroyed during the Boston Tea Party in 1773. Favored by George Washington, Young Hyson was regularly ordered and served at Mount Vernon, reflecting its popularity among the colonial elite.
