Title: “Prospect, Grundris und Gegend der Polnischen vesten Reichs und Handels-Stadt Dantzig und ihrem Werder.”​ ​​ Description: Antique map of the surroundings of Gdańsk (Danzig), Poland. The map is uniquely oriented to the East/Southeast (rather than North), which allows for a dramatic layout of the Vistula River delta flowing toward the Baltic Sea coast on the left. The large pink and white geometric sectors illustrate the Danziger Werder and Marienburger Werder. These areas show the intricate drainage channels, dikes, and agricultural plots developed heavily by Dutch Mennonite settlers to manage the low-lying delta lands. A detailed architectural cityscape panorama titled “Prospect der Stadt Danzig” sits inside a decorative pedestal frame. It captures the famous skyline of the city from a distance, crowned at the top by the city’s official coat of arms. Left vignette features classical allegorical figures, including a personification of Fame or Geography holding navigational tools alongside a globe. Right vignette depicts bustling harbor merchants, figures in traditional clothing, and shipping crates, celebrating the city’s historic prominence as a major Polish Baltic trading port.
