Antique Japanese Two Drawer Medicine box with old Labels
A wonderful little two drawer box, used as a medicine box, with paper medicine labels that have been glued to the outside. It seems the owner of this box was something of a collector of the labels and wanted to preserve them. So much so that they have written in Kanji about one of the labels that it is old and should be preserved. I find records like this so fascinating as they speak to us more than mere chests of drawers, it is a cultural record, a real snapshot of time and culture. In good original condition, some of the paper labels have losses and what is left needs to be treated with care as they do look fragile. There is some writing on the top and sides of the case. Measures 19.5cm wide x 26.5cm deep x 21cm tall
