ellaOne is an emergency contraceptive pill manufactured by HRA Pharma. It helps prevent pregnancy after unprotected sex or when a contraceptive method has failed. It contains ulipristal acetate, an active ingredient that works by delaying or preventing ovulation, so fertilisation cannot occur. ellaOne is most effective when taken as soon as possible, but it can be used up to 5 days (120 hours) after unprotected intercourse. It comes as a single, easy-to-take tablet, offering a reliable emergency contraception option. ellaOne does not protect against sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and should not be used as a regular method of contraception. If a pregnancy has already begun, ellaOne will have no effect. For ongoing protection, it is recommended to use a regular contraceptive method after taking ellaOne.
