Sketchbook Club - Thursday 25th June
Welcome to Sketchbook Club! On the last Thursday of each month, a different host will lead a session designed to inspire you with your sketchbook practice. Month Two: Thursday 25th June For our second Sketchbook Club, Felixstowe painter and collage artist, Ruth Lyne will host the evening with the theme ‘Finding the abstract’. The session will begin and end at Thrive, weather permitting you will go for walk to the seafront to gather inspiration. Many artists don’t know where to begin with abstract art but Ruth will show you one of the ways that she often starts her paintings. In this relaxed session, she will help you make a simple viewfinder from a sheet of card and show you how to use it to find a range of compositions and textures that you can use in your artwork. You can draw a simple version of what you see through the viewfinder or use your phone to capture the image and draw it afterwards. We will be working on A4 paper and then cutting it up and sticking it into our sketchbooks. This is a simple process that helps you discover what you want to create, there is no right or wrong, just what you prefer. Important: A selection of simple drawing materials will be provided for you to use on the night but you are welcome to bring your own along too. Sketchbooks themselves are not included in the workshop price so please make sure to bring your own sketchbook along! A hot drink from the Thrive coffee shop is included in your ticket, and there will be cake available to purchase on the night if you wish. 7.00-8.30pm Location: Thrive Lifestyle Store, 34 Orwell Road, Felixstowe, IP11 7DB Future dates to be booked by the session: 30th July, 27th August. More to follow.
