Silicon Photomultiplier (SiPM)
Integrated USB-based SiPM Detector Highly sensitive, plug-and-play module with temperature correction Overview | Specifications | Features | Technical Support The Ossila Silicon Photomultiplier is a fully-integrated USB detector with power supply, detector, and 24-bit analog-to-digital converter. Both power and data communications are handled over the USB-C connection. Onboard temperature monitoring and correction removes much of the temperature dependent output inherent to SiPMs. High Sensitivity More sensitive than traditional photodiodes Fully Integrated SiMP detector with power supply and analog-to-digital converter Temperature Correction Dynamic bias voltage adjustments to reduce temperature dependence Compact and Modular With both post and rail mount options for custom setups Specifications Dimensions 65mm x 65mm x 14mm Weight 100g Irradiance measurement range (approx.) 1nW/cm² – 10uW/cm² Spectral range 200nm-1000nm Maximum detection efficiency 35% Detector area 3mm x 3mm Connection USB-C (combined power & communication) Signal-to-noise ratio >50,000:1 Data rate (max) 30Hz Gallery USB Silicon Photomultiplier Features High Sensitivity SiPMs are biased above the breakdown voltage of silicon, meaning that they operate on the principle of avalanche (Geiger) detection, where a single photon triggers many electrons to be generated with the device. This makes them for more sensitive than traditional photodiodes. Fully Integrated SiPMs require a voltage supply high enough to put the detector into Geiger mode (typically 10's of volts). The Ossila USB SiPM requires only a USB connection to a host PC to power the device. An onboard 24-bit low noise analog-to-digital converter negates the need for any external signal processing. Counts are output over the USB connection, negating the need for any external signal processing. Temperature Correction The breakdown voltage of a SiPM is highly temperature dependent which results in a signal that can vary greatly with small temperature changes. The Ossila SiPM is calibrated to dynamically adjust the bias voltage to keep the overvoltage constant, resulting in a 10x reduction in temperature dependence.
