Sonus Faber Extrema

2-Way Stand-Mounted Monitor Launched in 1991, the Extrema topped Sonus Faber's early lineage; heavier and more ambitious than the Parva, Minima, Electa, and Amator-Electa that preceded it. At 40kg, it was built with performance as the sole priority. Over three decades later, it's still regarded by collectors as one of the great, hard-to-replace vintage monitors. Design & Engineering The cabinet is a sculptural, seven-section satin-black structure flanked by 32mm-thick solid walnut side panels, seated on a massive iron stand platform. Its standout feature is a patented capacitor-free crossover ("Sine-Cap"), using a parallel inductor and resistor instead of a series capacitor to reduce phase distortion. The two-way design pairs a 28mm soft-dome tweeter with a 190mm mineral-loaded polypropylene woofer, extending bass via an auxiliary bass radiator rather than a port.
