London: John Lehmann.. 1948. The warm south First edition, first printing with the green panel on the spine. 233x165mm. pp. xiv, 15-189 [1bl]. Yellow buckram, spine with dark green panel lettered in gilt. Corners are rubbed with a slight bump to the head of front board. Some minor soiling across both boards. Original dust jacket illustrated by John Minton who did the extensive illustrations throughout the book. Some repairs and some creasing to the edges of the jacket and corners rubbed. Internally very good with only slight foxing to edges. Overall an excellent copy of a lovely book commissioned by Minton's great friend and supporter, John Lehmann. Through its vivid prose and sensuous illustrations, the essence and colour of Corsica was captured and shared with a post-war Britain that was more familiar with the drab and grey. [ref. 5352]
