Le Poruzot lies at the northern end of Meursault's premier cru band, past Genevrières and above Les Charmes, on firmer and rockier ground than its more celebrated neighbours. It has never enjoyed the same fame, which is part of its appeal: the wines are structured, savoury and slower to open, built for the cellar rather than for early charm. The nose combines lemon oil and quince with smoky, flinty notes and a touch of toasted grain. The palate is firm and sinewy, with real concentration packed behind a tight mineral frame, drying gently through a long, stony, faintly salted finish.Pierre-Vincent Girardin created his domaine in Meursault in 2016 after growing up in the cellar of his father Vincent Girardin, and released his first cuvée at nineteen. He works with native yeast fermentations and raises the wines in large format 456 litre barrels, a choice that keeps new oak influence low even on the more powerful premier crus.Vintages may vary.
