1947 Elsinore - Helsingborg Travel Poster - Original Vintage Poster
A very nice travel poster encouraging people to visit Denmark and Sweden (Elsinore/Helsingør and Helsingbrog). The period right after World War II was characterized by a massive urge to rebuild tourism and reunite the Nordic countries. During the war (1940–1945), the border across the Øresund strait had been strictly closed and guarded by the German occupying forces in Denmark. Following the liberation, travel activity across the strait exploded once again. The poster was commissioned as an advertisement for the travel route and ferry connection, aiming to attract Swedish, Danish, and international tourists to cross the narrow waters and experience the culture on both sides. -------------------------------------------- Artist: John Erik Hugo Gehlin Print: Lithography (Hälsingborgs Litografiska Aktiebolag) Dimensions: 24.4 x 39.1 in (62 x 99.5 cm) Condition: Good condition - the poster is slightly faded, has signs of handling/ageing, wear and tears on the borders, folds in the bottom and pinholes near the corners and edges - please see pictures. Country: Sweden Thanks for watching and please let me know if you have any questions. REF: L2202
