Native Broom Viminaria juncea Flower Seeds

With its graceful, upright stems and clouds of golden-yellow blooms, Viminaria juncea (Native Broom /Golden Spray) brings a distinctive look to Australian native gardens. Unlike many flowering shrubs, Native Broom has fine, rush-like foliage that creates an airy silhouette, complemented by masses of delicate, pea-shaped flowers. One of Golden Spray’s standout qualities is its vigorous growth across a range of soil types. Its adaptable nature makes it suitable for a variety of garden settings, from naturalistic native plantings to larger landscape projects. It can grow in both sunny and shaded positions and is frost-tolerant, including in cooler climates. This unusual Australian native is a beautiful option for gardeners wanting to introduce something different to their landscape. Its golden flowers also provide a valuable food source for visiting pollinators, making it a lovely addition to a wildlife-friendly garden. Planting Guide Botanical Name: Viminaria juncea Plant Height: Up to 6m Sowing: Pour boiling water over the seeds and allow them to soak for 12–24 hours as the water cools. This helps soften the hard seed coat and break dormancy. Seeds that absorb water will swell to approximately twice their original size. Plant only the swollen seeds. If some seeds remain unchanged, repeat the treatment for those seeds before sowing. Sow in spring or early summer, either directly into well-prepared garden soil or into a well-drained seed-raising mix. Plant the swollen seeds very shallowly, around 2–3 mm deep, and cover lightly. Avoid sowing too deeply, as this can prevent seedlings from emerging. Keep the soil or growing mix moist but not waterlogged during germination. Note: Some native seeds like to take their time! They often stay dormant until conditions feel just right. Follow the pre-treatment and sowing tips provided, and don’t worry if germination takes a little longer; it’s all part of nature’s rhythm.
