Editorial Reviews Kirkus Reviews An anxious boy discovers a method for self-soothing. When Myles finds a new rock for his collection, he can’t wait to show his best friend, Weston. But Weston has his own surprise: an invitation to his slumber party. The last sleepover Myles attended didn’t go well, and he needed to be picked up early. Determined not to let that happen again, Myles practices by sleeping in the basement and at his grandmother’s house. Though he brings his rock along for company, his fears overwhelm him and he cuts both attempts short. In his third rehearsal, in a backyard tent with his family, Myles manages to fall asleep by focusing on the shape and feel of the rock in his hand. He successfully repeats this meditative practice at Weston’s party and is heartened to learn that his friends also need bedtime comfort items. While it might not make for the most enthralling read, Moudahi’s tale is ideal for counselors, teachers, or parents looking for an accessible way to teach grounding as a coping mechanism for anxiety. Nighttime nerves are easily relatable, and young readers will enjoy finding a rock of their own to try this technique. Boschinger’s muted, autumnal palette underscores the book’s focus on nature and provides a sense of visual calm. Myles has tan skin and brown hair; his friends are diverse. A useful tool for teaching mindfulness. Details Hardcover ISBN: 978-1-62354-658-8 Ages: 4–8 Page count: 32 8 x 10 Publication date: February 2, 2027 [/TABS]
