Matured in a single sherry butt, cask number 8802, this rare Highland whisky was bottled at 46.7% as part of Glen Garioch's exclusive hand-filled single cask range. Founded in 1797 in Oldmeldrum, Aberdeenshire, Glen Garioch is one of Scotland's oldest operating distilleries. The distillery is particularly well regarded for its older whiskies, especially those distilled before its temporary closure in 1995. These earlier vintages are known for their rich, full-bodied character and often display a different style from the whisky produced following the distillery's reopening in 1997. Distilled during this earlier period, this Glen Garioch 1984 spent 35 years maturing in sherry wood, developing the rich colour and complex character associated with long-aged Highland single malts. The distillery's tasting notes describe floral aromas, scented wood and liquorice, followed by intense sherry flavours, roasted pine nuts, prunes and grilled almonds. The finish is lingering, with muscat and dried flowers. A particularly interesting single cask release from Glen Garioch's older stocks, bottled by hand at the distillery after more than three decades of maturation.
