Gudrun Johnston is a Shetland-born knitwear designer currently based in Massachusetts. She is known for accessible modern-day patterns inspired by her heritage. Her new book, Shetland Shades, is an homage to her Shetland roots and the rich knitting traditions of these breathtaking islands. The collection includes 12 brand new knitting patterns, with the focus on richly-coloured sleeveless tops of various types, complemented by a selection of beautiful hats and scarves. Inspired by the rugged beauty of the islands, the book explores different ways of knitting with colour, combining the many shades of Shetland’s own natural palette. Most of the patterns in this books have been knitted with the yarn Spindrift by Jamiesons of Shetland.
