This very early map depicts the northern portion of the newly formed United States, extending from northern Virginia to Maine (Machasuzet Bay) and westward to include Lake Erie. The map features good topographical detail, along with numerous settlements, forts, and Indian villages. Among the places identified are Baltimore, Annapolis, Alexandria, New York, Boston, and Fort Halifax, as well as many smaller settlements. Four distance scales appear in the upper left.
