Copper Potting Scoop

Get the mix in the pot. Not all over the table. What it is: A handmade steel scoop with a copper-plated finish and a lacquered mango wood handle, made for the pots most of us actually own — small ones, on shelves and benches, where a garden scoop is more trouble than it's worth. What it does: The narrow bowl controls the pour and puts mix exactly where you want it — including the awkward gap between the root ball and the pot wall. Best used: Repotting, potting up, and topping up mix around the root ball — anywhere a trowel or a cupped hand makes more mess than it saves. How to use: Scoop, tip, tap the rim. Brush the bowl dry after use and slip it back in its cotton bag so it doesn't get knocked about in the drawer. Most potting scoops are garden tools shrunk down — wide, blunt, and built for someone standing over a raised bed. This one was designed for the job indoors: a small plant, a small pot, and a table you'd rather not have to wipe down afterwards. The bowl is sized to reach the gap between root ball and pot wall, so you can fill evenly rather than pack one side and hope. It's the kind of tool you'll reach for every time you repot, which is why it's built from steel under the copper — solid copper is soft and dents; steel doesn't. The copper finish will take on a patina with use, and the lacquered handle stays as it is.
