The An Scéal Cashmere Aran Crew Neck Sweater (pronounced awn shh kale meaning 'The Story') was designed to carry the tradition of storytelling that runs through every stitch of an Aran sweater in the material we know best: 100% pure, luxury cashmere. The body of the sweater features an elaborate arrangement of plaits and cables working closely together to represent the twists and turns of a life's journey, while the blackberry stitch scattered throughout recalls the wild blackberry bushes found along the hedgerows of the Aran Islands, a nod to nature's quiet abundance. On the sleeves sits the Tree of Life, a motif long used in Aran knitting to symbolise strength, family, and the deep roots that connect one generation to the next. The neckline, cuffs, and hems are finished with cabled trims, echoing the ropes and knots familiar to the island's fishermen and the resilience passed down through their work, framing the piece with the same care and craftsmanship found throughout, and bringing the whole design full circle.
