DETAILS Stone Setting : Jadau Kundan Finish : Gold-Plated Contains : One Necklace and One Pair of Earrings Necklace Fastening : Adjustable Thread/Dori Earring Fastening : Push BackCRAFT STORY Mortantra's Jadau Kundan collection draws on one of India's oldest stone-setting crafts - a tradition carried by both the royal workshops of Rajasthan and the karigar ateliers of Gujarat - in which refined gold is worked around each stone to hold it without a single prong. We set silver-foiled stones into gold-plated brass and finish the metal by hand, bringing this royal-workshop craft within reach as accessible luxury.Jadau Kundan was perfected from the sixteenth century in the royal workshops of Jaipur and Bikaner and in the karigar quarters of Gujarat, where the same craft is long known as Pachi Kundan; artisans pressed purified gold around each stone in a bed of lac so it sat secure without claws or prongs, the reverse often turned into a second artwork in meenakari enamel. Mortantra's pieces carry that setting tradition forward in gold-plated metalwork, holding each stone the way the craft always has.THE PIECE A gold-plated Jadau Kundan necklace set in dark green, comprising a princess-style necklace with a gold belt necklace overlay and a pair of push-back earrings. The set features Kundan (silver-foiled) stone setting throughout, with flower and moon motifs visible in the arrangement. The deep green colourway lends the piece a rich, jewel-toned character suited to festive and bridal occasions. The necklace fastens with an adjustable thread/dori tie.
