Inside the globe, a stack of spun aluminum reflector discs screens the source completely and pushes output downward — a precise, technical counterpoint to the softness of the glass. The result is two kinds of light from one fixture: a clean, glare-free pool over the table or island below, and an ambient halo glowing through the tinted sphere at ceiling height. One Cassiel Clear Glass Orb Pendant Light is well proportioned on its own in a room of roughly 8 × 8 ft, over a table seating four to six, or beside a bed. In wider rooms and over longer islands it is meant to be repeated — two or three spheres in a row read better than one oversized fixture. Is it hardwired, or does it plug in? Hardwired. It mounts to a standard ceiling box with a round canopy and bracket, and runs from your existing wall switch — there is no plug or inline switch. Installation by a qualified electrician is recommended. How high should I hang it? Measure to the bottom of the glass: 30–34″ above a dining tabletop, 30–36″ above a kitchen counter, about 30″ above a nightstand, and a minimum of 7 ft 6 in from the floor anywhere people walk. Can the drop be shortened or made longer? Yes. The fixture ships with 150 cm / 59″ of suspension, which your installer shortens on site. For high ceilings, stairwells and double-height foyers, send us your floor-to-ceiling measurement before you order and we will supply a longer drop. Will I see the bulb from below? No. The sphere is clear, but the stack of spun aluminum discs inside is sized and positioned to screen the lamp from normal sightlines. You see reflected light and the shape of the reflectors, not the source itself — which is what makes it comfortable to sit under. Which bulb should I use? One E26 medium-base lamp, 8W maximum. Bulbs are not included, so you can pick your own colour temperature — 2700K reads warmest and pairs best with the gold and white & apricot finishes. The fixture is not dimmable and should not be wired to a dimmer switch. How do the four finishes differ in the light they cast? The finish is applied to the internal reflectors and the exposed hardware, so it colours the reflected light as well as the look of the fixture. Chrome is the crispest and most neutral, gold warms it toward amber, white keeps it soft and even, and white & apricot adds a gentle blush. Screen rendering varies, so treat photographs as a guide rather than an exact match. Can it be installed on a sloped ceiling? Often, but it depends on the pitch. Send us your ceiling angle before ordering and we will confirm whether the standard canopy will sit correctly or whether a sloped-ceiling adapter is needed. How should I clean the glass? Switch the power off at the breaker and let the fixture cool. Dust the sphere with a dry microfibre cloth; for fingerprints, use a cloth lightly dampened with diluted glass cleaner and follow with a dry one. Never spray liquid directly onto the fixture, and keep abrasives and solvent-based cleaners away from the plated finishes. What if it arrives damaged? Glass ships in a double-walled carton with a moulded insert, but transit damage is still possible. Photograph the carton and the fixture and contact us within 48 hours of delivery, and we will arrange replacement parts or a new fixture.
