Boathouse, Mudeford Quay - Preview
For this latest watercolour landscape project, I’ve chosen this scene featuring an old, weathered boathouse at Mudeford Quay, near Christchurch, in the UK. It’s the sort of scene that always appeals to me, and I’ve only made minimal changes to the composition. There’s just a glimpse of the background landscape that sets us up nicely for the detail of the old, corrugated iron building. There’s a perfectly positioned boat that serves to lead the viewer's eye to the focal point, and it’s all under a heavy, dramatic sky. Lots of opportunities to practice several watercolour techniques, like wet-into-wet for the sky, the detail of the boathouse and the foreground boat, plus dry-brushwork for the foreground. I hope you enjoy painting it as much as I did. Happy Painting, Geoff.
