Rectangular Brutalist Coffee Table by Paul Kingma with Nautilus Shell, 1978

Paul Kingma coffee table from 1978, made entirely by hand. The rectangular top is 120 cm long and 77 cm wide. Concrete, natural stone, ceramic and metal form an abstract pattern in warm earth tones, with strong geometric planes and an inlaid Nautilus shell. The table has a distinctive Brutalist appearance. Paul Kingma designed and made this table. The textured top is composed of slate, river stones, terracotta mosaic, glazed ceramic, concrete, brass details and a copper coin. The black metal base provides a restrained foundation for the colourful top. The table was made in the Netherlands and combines Brutalism with mid-century design. The original inlaid brass signature ring marked “KINGMA 1978” is present. Dimensions: 120 × 77 × 32 cm (W×D×H). The condition of this table is very good. The top shows light wear consistent with its age and the materials used. The original patina has been preserved, the construction is solid and the finish is carefully executed.
