Micro Precision 7.8 3.5-Inch Wideband Speaker The Micro Precision 7.8 is a compact wideband driver developed to complete the 7-Series three-way speaker lineup. It is designed to reproduce the midrange and upper frequencies from a single speaker, making it suitable for high-end automotive systems where a separate midrange and tweeter may not be practical. Its lightweight paper cone and non-inductive glass-fiber voice coil help keep moving mass low, allowing the driver to respond quickly while maintaining a natural and detailed tonal character. Wideband Frequency Response The 7.8 is designed to operate from approximately 120Hz through the upper frequencies. Micro Precision rates its response at 120Hz to 12,000Hz within ±2.5dB, with additional extension above that range. This wide operating bandwidth allows the 7.8 to cover much of the audible spectrum from a single speaker location. Reducing the number of drivers reproducing the midrange and high frequencies can also simplify system integration and crossover design. Lightweight Paper Cone Micro Precision uses a lightweight paper membrane chosen for its balance of low mass, rigidity, and natural damping. The cone is paired with a 15mm non-inductive glass-fiber voice coil. This construction helps reduce stored energy and inductive behavior while supporting clear, controlled reproduction throughout the driver’s operating range. Flexible Installation The 7.8 can be installed in enclosures starting at approximately one liter or used in an infinite-baffle installation. Micro Precision recommends high-passing the driver at or above 120Hz. The manufacturer’s basic recommendation is a 120Hz crossover using a 6 or 12dB-per-octave slope, although the final crossover should be selected according to the installation, listening level, and system design. Each set is supplied as a matched pair selected according to resonant frequency and impedance-curve measurements.
