The first oval ripple molding scraped from solid hardwood.Ripple molding has been cut in straight runs since the Dutch Golden Age — a knife drawn along hardwood until the wave is scraped into the surface. Curved ripple has only ever been imitated in compo: cast paste pressed into a mold and bent around the bend. This frame's oval sight edge is cut, not cast, in solid maple over a poplar body.Named for Saskia van Uylenburgh, Rembrandt's wife, whom he painted in an oval more than once. The outer profile is an octagon carrying a second run of ripple; the inner sight edge is a true oval. Finished in deep black. Signed on the back by the maker.9 × 12 Panel size: 9" × 12" Sight edge: 8¾" × 11¾" oval Five available from the first batch — further orders ship with the next batch 11 × 14 Panel size: 11" × 14" Available to pre-order — ships with the next batch Both sizes Body: poplar · Ripple: maple Outer shape: octagon · Sight edge: oval Finish: deep black Handmade one at a time by Tom Matthews, Eaton NY
